The paper would then ignite and the larger container would be closed quickly. Inside, the growing flames would engulf the pottery, painting it with unique designs to create a one-of-kind piece! Instructor Howard Hartke will give instruction in form, glazing technique, and firing procedures. Fee is $225 for NAA members/$250 for non-members plus a $20 materials fee for all.
The Art Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the exhibitions, library and gift shop is free. For more information, the public may call 239-262-6517 or visit http://naplesart.org

Naples is growing

In a recent article in the Naples Daily News, the U.S. Census bureau has ranked Naples as the 7th fastest growing metro area in the nation based on percentage of growth. The county grew by 25 percent from 2000 to 2006.
The actual population figures released showed a growth from 251,000 to a total of 326,000 during those same years.
This growth, while expected, puts forth many challenges for the local politicians and planners.
