The skies are blue and the balmy breezes of the Gulf of Mexico sweep across Naples, but everyone knows that this week is the official beginning of hurricane season. The Florida Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday begins this Friday and continues thru June 12th. These 12 days will enable residents to stock up on supply items free of sales tax. This will be the third year for this successful program and Gov. Charlie Christ is backing the program this time around. Generators are always the big favorite item to buy during this free sales tax period followed by the red fuel containers you see everywhere to run the generators. In total, Floridians will save on the order of $25 million in sales tax. Some of the qualifying items are batteries, lanterns, artificial ice, candles, any gas or fuel container, weather band radios, cell phone chargers, coolers, tarps or other weatherproof coverings, cell phone batteries, tie-down kits. Storm shutters are another big item that many residents look to add to their homes during this time period to fully prepare and secure their property.
This is a great program for the people of Florida, let’s hope it is just a wise thing to do and not something that we will actually need because of a real hurricane.
We just had our front lawn completely redone by Wizzard Lake Nursery here in Naples, Florida. They did a terrific job and we would be very comfortable recommending them to our clients for their own homes. We first worked with Sallie Rae who is their designer. She came up with a design that really addressed all our concerns plus she had a few surprises thrown in to really make the job complete. We added a water fountain and some landscaping lights to the project and we’re glad we did because it really accented Sally’s design especially on the palm trees. We can honestly say we are more than satisfied, we’re delighted. It is well worth the money to invest in the curb appeal of your property. If you have a landscaping project, please check out Wizzard Lake Nursery.
Our website and business information has been added to Squidoo.com recently and here’s where you can find Ruth’s Naples real estate directory. There are many new directories being found on the internet and we try to be as expansive as possible to let people know about Naples, Florida.
Well, I have to bring you up to date on my social life. My brother Tom, author/designer of The Bethem Family website was in town and we had a great visit. Besides, playing golf at the Naples Beach Hotel Golf course and celebrating Mother’s Day with our mother, the main highlight was our yearly tradition of eating launch at Pastrami Dan’s. Wow, this guy really knows how to make a sandwich and Tom always wants to stop by when he’s in town. If you ever want to impress someone with a local secret, check this place out…you won’t be disappointed. Everyone is now back to normal and back to work.
The 2007 Conde Nast Traveler Golf Poll rated our own Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort at Tiburon here in Naples, Florida as the 15th best golf resort in the world and the top resort in Florida. The magazines’s annual reader’s poll lists the world’s Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America, the Caribbean, the Atlantic, Ireland and Scotland.
It’s turtle season and we all need to take some precautions. The season runs between May 1st and October 31st for the loggerhead turtles we have here. The experts in this field say that only one in every 1,000 sea turtle hatchlings will survive to full adulthood. Some precautions we can all help with are shutting off or shielding lights from the beach, close your drapes after dark, don’t take your flashlight on the beach, be quiet when observing nesting female turtles and please stay at a distance because they are easily frightened away. Thanks for your help.
We’ve had a price reduction on a condo we have for sale in Forest Lakes. It is a first floor unit that is on the end and therefore very bright with a view of the golf course. The new price is only $204,000. It is located in a 55 plus community.
Zoo special. Collier County residents can take advantage of free admission the first Saturday of every month when you enter with proof of residency by 11:00 AM.
Speaking of the Zoo, the Parma wallabies have three new cute babies. Parma wallabies are one of the smallest of the kangaroo family. The zoo’s Damara zebras have been joined by two new Grant’s zebras. Sounds like it’s time to check out the Zoo and it’s new additions.
