Bonita approves more density on Old 41

Downtown Bonita Springs will get much busier as the City Council 5-2 this evening approved more density along the Old 41 corridor.
The theory goes more people downtown will lead to more growth downtown as part of the city’s revitalization plan for the area.
The move today allowed up to 20 units per acre and buildings up to 75 feet high in the 447-acre area that stretches along Old 41 between Tennessee Street and Dortch Avenue.
This is one phase of the downtown revitalization plan which also includes improving Riverside Park, fixing the infrastructure in the area and creating a destination in the former Bamboo Village mobile home park.
Councilman Pat McCourt dissented because he thought the citizens didn’t want a downtown like this plan will create. Councilman Alex Grantt opposed the motion because he thought 20 units per acre was too much.
