Collier County Recycling
Collier County recycling centers in Naples, Marco Island, Immokalee and Carnestown allow residents to safely dispose of paint, cooking oil, transmission and hydraulic fluid, car batteries, rechargeable batteries, mercury switches, thermometers, thermostats, flares, ammunition, propane gas tanks, biomedical sharps, yard waste, and other hazardous wastes such as pesticides, paint thinners and pool chemicals. The centers also dispose of fluorescent light bulbs, HID lamps, ballasts, electronics and tires, but charges apply in some cases. The charge to recycle tires is $1 each for tires 15 inches or less and $4 each for tires 16 inches or more.
Residents can dispose of 10 free bulbs or ballasts, then they are 30 cents each for fluorescent tubes and $1 each for HID lamps and ballasts. For electronics, residents may dispose of three for free, and pay $3 each for additional electronic items. With the impending conversion to digital broadcasting, some people are disposing of televisions or other electronic items with their regular trash, said Margie Hapke of the Collier County Public Utilities Division.
“We don’t want those ending up in the landfill,” Hapke said. Free curbside collection is available for electronic items in Collier, but call 48 hours in advance at 252-2380.
