Changes are taking place at Grand Central Station
This article appeared in the Naples Daily News on December 13th regarding the transformation that is taking place at the site of the old Grand Central Station in downtown Naples. This is all part of the renovation and rejuvenation of the area.
The first pieces of Grand Central Station, the building sitting on 22 acres in the heart of the City of Naples, fell to the ground at 9 a.m. today, making way for Antaramian Development’s mixed-use Renaissance Village.
“This is a historic occasion,” said Mayor Bill Barnett, just before the demolition began. “I can remember when this white elephant was erected, but it never worked. This is the beginning of an era here and it’s very exciting.” Demolition will be completed by the end of December.
Renaissance Village, which includes 205,000 square feet of commercial space and 288 residential units, is set to be completed in 2009, according to developer Jack Antaramian. Residential units are priced from the mid-700,000s to more than 2 million. Commercial space is going for $45 per square foot, plus $10 to $12 for common area maintenance.
Florida Gulf Coast University has purchased an outparcel and a parking garage, and Starbucks and Coldstone Creamery have signed letters of intent to locate in the center.
