Habitat for Humanity builds two more homes in Bonita Springs

The News-Press is reporting on two new homes being built by the Habitat for Humanity of Lee County. These homes are to be built in the Rosemary Park community of Bonita Springs by residents of Bonita Springs and Pelican Landing. The organization has built 26 homes in the area and with the help of residents from Shadow Wood they will soon complete their 29th home in Bonita Springs. The Habitat builds simple, but decent housing for families who otherwise could not afford it. The homes are sold to the homeowners at no profit with an interest-free mortgage. The homeowners have three major requirements that they must meet. First they must put down a $1200 down payment. Next they must complete a class on homeownership and then they must contribute by putting in 500 hours of labor into their new house which is commonly called “sweat equity”. Habitat for Humanity of Lee County received the prestigious Affiliate of the Year Award this year for its contribution to the community. They have built more than 650 homes since 1982.
