Naples Tidbits #8

Here are a few tidbits I’ve gathered on what’s happening in the Naples area.

  • Collier County home sales to non-U.S. buyers in February increased 43 percent compared with the same month in 2007, according to the Naples Area Board of Realtors. Canadians accounted for the greatest portion of foreign homebuyers in Collier County.
  • For the sixth consecutive year, crime is down in Collier County. Violent and property crimes are the lowest since 1986.
  • Naples is now home to a FirstTee youth golf program. For informatin call 239-825-4851.
  • The Ritz-Carlton Beach Resort has earned the Five-Star award, Mobil Travel Guide’s highest rating, for 2008. Only 61 hotels, restaurants and spas in the U.S. and Canada reached the five-star level. The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, also in Naples, was awarded four stars.
  • The Naples Music Festival will take place on April 6th in the area around Third Street South between Broad Street South and 13th Ave. S. Many groups will be performing such as Gary Puckett, the Rembrandts and the Gin Blossoms. The festival benefits the Garden of Hope and Courage at the Naples Community Hospital.
  • The Naples Zoo has set a goal of becoming the best medium-sized zoo in the U.S. They have developed a $70 million, 20-year master plan that is waiting approval from the county.
