Naples Depot Museum at the Train Depot

Naples Train DepotThe Naples Train Depot was all decorated for Christmas last night so we dropped by after the boat parade in Venetian Village. The Depot was decorated by several designer trees and a large train layout filled the main room.
Built in 1927, the Naples Depot Museum is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is full of history, railroad memorabilia and a full-size 1940’s club car and caboose. A large permanent layout is available for viewing that’s approximately 20×30 feet. It’s quite interesting just to wonder the museum and to take you time to read the material available at the various displays. Napes Train Depot MuseumA whole wall is dedicated to photos of Naples going back to the early part of the century and particularly to the 60’s and 70’s when this town really started to take off. It’s fun to see the large areas of vacate land along the coastal areas that are now occupied by the beautiful homes of Port Royal and Gulf Shore Blvd.
One whole room is also dedicated to the long history of train travel to and from Naples. Allow yourself some time to read the posters and displays in this room and you’ll soon find yourself drifting back in time and hearing the whistle blowing as the large engines pulled into town.
