Naples Resident To Lead Olympic Bobsled Team
Five time Olympian and a resident of Naples, Florida, Bob Shimer, has agreed to be the next head coach of the U.S. Olympic Bobsled Team. Shimer was in the driver position of the U.S. team that won a Bronze Medal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City;, Utah which ended a 46 year medal drought for the U.S. The long term goal for the head coach will be to get this team ready for the 2010 Vancover Games and to win another medal.
Shimer is being helped by NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine and his team of mechanics to improve the Bo-Dyn sleds the American team will be using. The two first met after the 1994 Lillehammer Games.
Shimer’s main goal will be to bring this unit together as a team. As a fellow American and a friend of Naples, we wish him the best. Go U.S.A.
