Segway Anyone?

I couldn’t believe this when I read this on the internet at gizmag.com which had a dateline of Victoria, Australia oddly enough. The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort here in Naples, Florida is now offering the use of a Segway for golfers to use during their rounds at Tiburon. This is the highly respected course designed by Greg Norman and hosts the Merrill Lynch Shootout every November. The Segway x2 Golf offers a golf bag carrier, scorecard holder and low pressure tires which claim to be more user friendly to the turf than traditional golf carts. Tiburon is the first in the country to offer this service to it’s clients and has found that because of the convenience of the Segway to zip around the course it has reduced playing time for 18 holes from four hours or more to less than 3 hours. This looks like a lot of fun and a much quicker way of playing a round of golf, but it also seems like an accident waiting to happen. I can only imagine the scenerio when a couple of guys on vacation hit the course with one hand on the Segway and the other holding a cold beer. The back nine should be real interesting!
