It’s turning out to be a great couple weeks in the techno world, at least in my techno world in Naples, and that’s saying a lot! I had read two separate articles since January 2010 about rumors of Verizon selling the iPhone. Several friends (and even my own husband) didn’t believe me because they couldn’t find anything on it. However, once it was announced a few weeks ago, it’s like the floodwaters broke and it seems everyone is talking about. We’re a household of Blackberry users and although we like the device we had a taste of the iPhone thru friends and see the huge benefits but wouldn’t give up the phenomenal service that Verizon gives us so we just waited it out. To discover that Apple is coming out with a new iPhone just for Verizon customers gave us something to look forward to in the short term. That’s for another blog as excitement for the January 2011 release is getting us revved up.
Today I learned that in the next 2 weeks, we’ll be able to buy a Verizon iPad, again Yippee! And life just keeps getting better. Here’s some information on it from www.lilputing.com:
Here’s where it gets interesting: Verizon uses a different 3G mobile broadband technology than AT&T, but rather than retool the internal workings of the iPad to work on Verizon’s network Verizon will offer the WiFi version of the iPad plus a MiFi 2200 mobile wireless hotspot. That means you’ll need to turn on the MiFi in order to get online with the iPad when you’re not near a WiFi access point. But it also means that you can use the the MiFi with the iPad, a laptop, a smartphone, or another mobile wireless device.
Verizon will offer the 16GB version of the iPad with a MiFi for $629.99. A 32GB model will set you back $729.99 and the 64GB model will run $829.99. You can also purchase the iPad without a MiFi from Verizon, but you’ll only get the WiFi models which run between $499.99 and $699.99. Monthly data plans start at $20 per month for 1GB of data.$35 per month will get you 3GB, and the top plan runs $50 per month for 5GB of data. The contracts are month to month, with no annual commitment.
Verizon has put up a web site for the iPad, but its probably getting hammered with traffic because I had to hit refresh a number of times to get it to load properly.
Again, it’s another beautiful day in paradise and this just sweetened the deal. Need a cabana all your own? Contact Ruth Bethem at Ruth@RuthBethem.com or direct at 239-777-7007 or toll free 877-777-7545 for further information or questions on Naples real estate.
