April 23 to 25 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) – Raku. Imagine yourself traveling back to 16th Century Japan, where handmade pottery was fired to over 1800 degrees and, while still hot, was placed in another container of wood chips and paper. The paper would then ignite and the larger container would be closed quickly. Inside, the growing flames would engulf the pottery, painting it with unique designs to create a one-of-kind piece! Instructor Howard Hartke will give instruction in form, glazing technique, and firing procedures. Fee is $225 for NAA members/$250 for non-members plus a $20 materials fee for all.
The Art Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the exhibitions, library and gift shop is free. For more information, the public may call 239-262-6517 or visit http://naplesart.org
