The schedule for January has been released by the von Liebig Art Center.
Continuing from November 18 to January 7 – 45th Founders Juried Awards Exhibition.
January 6 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) – Art in the Park. Naples’ oldest outdoor art festival celebrates its 50th anniversary season by showcasing artwork from Naples Art Association members. January’s Featured Artist is Sidney Ann Pitchford. Held in Cambier Park and on Park St., alongside The von Liebig Art Center. Free admission.
January 7 (2 – 4 p.m.) – Art Lecture by historian Frank Cooper. Fee is $20 for NAA members/$25 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.
January 8 – Session III Studio Art Classes for Adults begin. Most classes run three to six weeks. Traditional courses are offered, including oil/acrylic painting, wet clay modeling, photography, and mural painting. New courses offered include a five-day Tribal & African Art Week and four-day Watercolor “On-The-Go.” Full schedule online at naplesart.org.
January 11 (5 – 8 p.m.) – Hunt Slonem: From His Collection to Yours. Two hundred-forty fans of New York City-based artist Hunt Slonem will have a one-in-four chance to own one of 60 framed watercolors donated by the artist as tickets are drawn every 90 seconds and winners select the artwork of their choice. Each piece has a minimum value of $500. In addition, Slonem has donated one oil painting worth $10,000 that will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Tickets to participate in the drawing are $325 for NAA members and $350 for non-members, and more than one ticket may be purchased to increase the odds of having a winning ticket drawn. January 11 – Session III Studio Art Classes for Youth begin. Four six-week evening classes for students ages 10-17 are offered: oil painting, advanced drawing, photography, and introduction to theatre arts.
January 19 (5:30 – 7:30 p.m.) – Members Preview Reception for Golf in American Art and Fairways, Flags and Traps: An NAA Members Juried Exhibition. Several of the artists will be in attendance.
January 20 to March 11 – Golf in American Art. Guest curator J. William Meek, III, is organizing a “blockbuster” exhibition which will “play” into the hearts of many a golfer. This exhibition will feature paintings and sculpture by American artists depicting scenes of golf courses (both local and national), personalities of the game, and the equipment. Sources for these works include artists such as Will Barnet, Hunt Slonem, Robert Vickrey, David Coolidge, Paul Arsenault, and Richard Segalman. LeRoy Neiman is loaning two oils of Tiger Woods from his private collection, the USGA Museum will loan from six to ten oils dating back to the 1940s, the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine will loan an Andy Warhol of Jack Nicklaus, and the Butler Institute of American Art in Ohio will loan a Gary Erbe oil. Additional works are being sought from the PGA Museum, fine art sales galleries, art museums and other national sources.
January 20 to March 11 – Fairways, Flags and Traps: An NAA Members Juried Exhibition. Naples Art Association members exhibit two and three dimensional artwork relating to or inspired by golf and golf courses.
January 21 (2 – 4 p.m.) – Art Lecture by historian Frank Cooper. Fee is $20 for NAA members/$25 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.
January 22 (12 –2 p.m.) – Lunch With the Arts. NAA board member and guest curator J. William Meek III, will discuss the Golf in American Art exhibition being showcased from January through March at The von Liebig Art Center. Lunch sponsored and provided by Trulucks Seafood Steak Crabhouse. Admission is free for Naples Art Association members and customers of series sponsor Comerica Wealth and Institutional Management (and Comerica Bank, who show proof of relationship), and $5 for others. Lunch is served on a first-come, first-served basis, while everyone is invited to stay for the lectures.
January 22 to 24 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) – Painting Floral Still Lifes. Ever dreamed of being Brueghel or Delacroix? Then this is the workshop for you! Renowned artist Hedi Moran will teach students to paint beautiful flowers in oil. The basic concepts of painting, how to find sources of inspiration, and how to arrange flowers to paint will all be covered. Fee is $550 for NAA members/$580 for non-member plus a $25 materials fee for all.
January 27 and 28 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) – Art Marketing: How to Cash in Without Selling Out. “Starving Artist” is a term often used to describe a pioneering and progressive artist. If starving is not an issue, but you are hungry to make a living as an artist, then this workshop is your ticket to artistic fortune. Instructor Kate Burridge will discuss how to market your artwork, successful self-promotion, and the “in’s and out’s” of the art business. Fee is $150 for NAA members/$175 for non-member plus book fee of $24.95 for all.
January 29 to February 1 – Postmodern Painter Meets the Contemporary Collage Artist. Get ready to break all the rules with painter Robert Burridge in this workshop for the fun and fearless! Students will combine acrylic paint with their own materials to form a collage. An introduction to the fundamental characteristics of art, including mixed media and color theory, will be included in this workshop. Students will also learn a few key art marketing and ethics tips. Burridge works with artists at all amateur and professional levels. Fee is $500 for NAA members/$550 for non-members.
