von Liebig Art Center - November

The November schedule for the von Liebig Art Center has been released.
November 4 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) – Art in the Park. Naples’ oldest outdoor art festival celebrates its 50th anniversary season by showcasing artwork from Naples Art Association members. November’s Featured Artist is Debbie Henderson. Held in Cambier Park and on Park St., alongside The von Liebig Art Center. Free admission. 

November 5 (3 p.m.) – “Inside the Juror’s Corner with Faith Ringgold.” Lecture with juror for the 45th Founders Juried Awards Exhibition. Ringgold began her artistic career as a painter and is best known for her painted story quilts. She has exhibited in major museums in the United States and abroad. Her work is held by numerous museums including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Museum of Modern Art. Ringgold has received more than 75 awards, fellowships, citations and honors, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Fellowship for painting, two National Endowment for the Arts Awards and seventeen honorary doctorates. Being held at Edison College. Free.

November 8 to 11 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) – Tidal Textures fiber art workshop. Join needlepoint designer Joan Thomasson to create your own beach scene with paint, string, hand-dyed silk, modeling paste, felt padding, real shells, and other materials. Students will work with needlepoint design techniques and can incorporate their own shells. At the end of this workshop, students will have numerous samples of each technique for their own collection. Students must supply stretcher bars or frame for a 15×18 canvas, usual stitching supplies, and magnification if desired. Fee is $250 for NAA members/$275 for non-members plus $100 for all to purchase a supplies kit sold in the class.
 

November 12 (1 – 4 p.m.) – The Thai Art of Fruit and Vegetable Carving. Imagine sitting down to a meal and seeing your table graced by an arrangement of fruits and vegetables creatively carved into the shape of exotic flowers! The Thai art of fruit and vegetable carving was once a skill only taught and inherited by women; now it can be part of your home repertoire. This workshop will teach students everything they need to know to create their own carvings. Fee is $50 for NAA members/$60 for non-members plus $25 materials fee for all. November 13 – Session II Studio Art Classes for Adults begin. Most classes run three to six weeks. Traditional courses are offered, including oil/acrylic painting, wet clay modeling, photography, and mural painting. New courses offered include a five-day Holiday Heritage Week and four-day Art of Ikebana. Full schedule online at naplesart.org. 

November 16 – Session II Studio Art Classes for Youth begin. Four six-week evening classes for students ages 10-17 are offered: oil painting, advanced drawing, photography, and introduction to theatre arts. 
 
November 17 (5:30 – 7:30 p.m.) – Members Preview Reception and Awards Presentation for the 45th Founders Juried Awards Exhibition. Several of the artists will be in attendance. November 18 to January 7 – 45th Founders Juried Awards Exhibition. This exhibition features current work in all media by NAA member artists. November 20 (12 – 2 p.m.) – Lunch With the Arts. Heidi Schumann, an independent photojournalist and documentary photographer who has worked with The New York Times, New York Daily News, Time, Newsweek, Reuters, Associated Press, Boston Globe and other media clients, will highlight her work on gun violence in Central and South America. Lunch sponsor to be determined. Admission is free for Naples Art Association members and customers of series sponsor Comerica Wealth and Institutional Management (and Comerica Bank, who show proof of relationship), and $5 for others. Lunch is served on a first-come, first-served basis, while everyone is invited to stay for the lectures.

November 25 and 26 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) – Naples Renaissance Fall Art Festival. This invitational festival will feature 120 artists exhibiting and selling their work along 10th Street in downtown Naples.
The Art Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the exhibitions, library and gift shop is free. For more information, the public may call 239-262-6517 or visit http://naplesart.org
